Program Description
The CSI Summer Academy is funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Applications will be accepted beginning on March 15 and ending on March 31, 2013. Students will be notified by May 1, 2013. Thirty five students will be accepted to this Academy.
The Academy offers a five-day residential program for high school students entering the 8th-12 grades. The Academy will feature participation with an innovative and experiential learning experience by serving 35 highly motivated and talented high school students who reside in Oklahoma. Students and parents/caregivers will be provided with opportunities to interact with forensic professionals and learn more about multidisciplinary forensics programs, college planning and STEM career opportunities. CSI participants will be immersed in virtual crime scenes using avatars, engage in hands-on activities conducting DNA tests and be guided for site visits touring the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
College Experience
The students selected to attend will also be exposed to experience life on a college campus. Students will live in university residence halls and eat on campus giving students a real "feel" for college life. Counselors will be housed on the same floor to provide maximum assistance and supervision. Students will have class activities from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1:00 p.m.- 5 p.m. each day. Educational and recreational activities will be scheduled each evening.
All expenses, including housing, meals, supplies, and books will be provided to each academy student. Travel expenses to and from the academy location and incidental personal expenditures are the responsibility of the academy student.
